The directory was apparently OK. Maybe starting and stopping
Subsurface via CTRL+C on command line left some file hold by some
process. I deleted everything and started from scratch.

Everything works fine now!

Now when I use WI-FI or tethering with direct internet access
Subsurface doesn't look for proxy anymore.
