I'm afraid the Shearwaters and Heinrichs-Weikamps of the world are the minority. Most dive computer manufacturers seem to really want to "own their ecosystem". I think it's something people learn in Business School. To mis-quote John Steinbeck, I suspect they don't see themselves as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed Apple in the making. But who knows.. If somebody has connections inside any of these companies, maybe it would be worthwhile trying to reach out to them?
