To respond to your question:

The command line you asked about returns nothing - when run either before anactivity (involving MIDI) is opened, or after the activity is closed.

The file "midiC1D0" does exist however, though with my rudimentary knowledgeof Linux, I've no idea what kind of animal it is. I just know it's not adirectory, and prints nothing with "cat midiC1D0" (from the appropriate snddirectory).

It looks like the device is already in use.

if you do "lsof /dev/snd/midiC1D0" what do you get?
