Hi, finally managed to put Google Gears to work on Browse. Have entered a ticket about the work needed in hulahop and attached a patch that is awaiting review: https://dev.laptop.org/ticket/7530
David, for this to work you need to put the .xpt and the .so in /usr/lib/hulahop/components dir and the chrome.manifest (renamed to gears.manifest so it doesn't overwrites other manifest in there) and chrome dir in /usr/share/hulahop/chrome. This should work with other extensions, please try it and report back.
