First of all I just want to point out that it is not only for visualization. Our main goal is to use it for testing our autonomous vehicle algorithms in realistic scenarios condition. You can add in the simulation vehicles that are not controlled by SUMO and on which you can add various types of sensors (lidars, camera, gps, etc.) and write a control algorithm (in whatever language you prefer, C, C++, phyton, matlab, etc.) for these specific vehicles (the other one are of course controlled by sumo). Concerning the set-up, we have used TraCI (http://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/TraCI) to write a python program that make the interface between SUMO and Webots. Concerning the availability, thanks to our close collaboration with Cyberbotics (the company who produces Webots), we have been able to include it with the Software. You can download a trial version of Webots (https://www.cyberbotics.com/download), and you will get the interface with it (including source code) and a very small doc about the interface.
