In R. Rohrs book "Sundials History, Theory, and Practice" page 6, he
writes: "Among the Hindus, one finds from early times gnomons surrounded by
concentric circles which made it easier to determine the... meridian. This
gnomon was rapidly adopted by other peoples of the period and the term
"Hindu circles", by which it is currently designated, leaves no doubt of
its origin."
I would like to find out:
1. to which period is Rohr reffering
2. who were the peoples who adopted this type of dial
3. is there a possibility to see this type of dial (books, cataloges,
museums etc.)
4. any other information about such a dial will be appreciated.
                          Thanks, Ronit Maoz
