Sirs,
Our design firm is interested in creating a vertical sundial for a community in our area and had received information via the net re: steps that need to be taken to create a sundial on a new structure at the entrance to the community. When we received the information specific to our location in Charlotte, NC (USA), we understood that the wall need not face directly south and through calculations that the sundial would work in other orientations. Also at that time, we were not exactly sure of the building orientation, roadway approaches, etc. It now appears that the building wall faces northeast and we are not sure if the northerly orientation will work or work effectively.

Can you give us some assistance in determining whether or not the northerly facing direction will work and if so, how might we best calculate the sun's direction, the shape of the dial face gnomon, triangle indicator, etc. as it relates to our location (latitude). Any help that you can give us would be greatly appreciated. Could you please get back to me promptly on this? We need to make some decisions with our client as to the effectiveness of the wall sundial.

I can be contacted via email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or via telephone at 707/ 376-0803. Thank you for your help.
