Tim Yu, and the rest of us have been the apparent victims of a notion that
has persisted for decades or longer:

I recall a recent article on the "fluid glass phenomenon" in the Skeptical
Inquirer published by the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of
Claims of the Paranormal which reviews claims of scientific truth for the
real truth. I believe the scientist doing the investigation actually used
pieces of stained glass from cathedrals as one of the types of samplings.
His conclusion:  the fluid glass phenomenon (glass flowing in microscopic
amounts to create a thicker bottom of a window pane) does not occur.
