In pursuit of wooden sundials, I have a few problems left, some
partially solved. Any help will be most welcome !!!!

Equatorial type - two half-rings - with brass rod for gnomon (I am still
not sure of the correct name for this type of dial).

1) Scale for hour lines and numerals: The best I have come up with is
"hoop pine" plywood from Australia. It is available in 1/8", 3 ply,
water-proof glue and extremely flexible.

2) Hour lines on scale: I am trying to us "fret wire", used by
luthiers in guitar making. This wire is designed to fit into a .020 in.
groove, which I am having a little trouble with. I need a better idea
on this one.

3) Numerals: What I need is Roman Numerals made of brass, which I have
been unable to find. I have been using the brass-looking plastic
numerals available from the clock kit catalogs. These are really not
suitable.

4) Compass: This must be brass. People do not like the plastic
Suunto's, even though they are good instruments. The best I have found
is a small brass compass made in Bemidgi Minn. that can be corrected for
magnetic deviations, but it is small (1-1/8" dia.) and not very
accurate.
