Dear Mario,

For astrological houses I do know the system of Campanus, deviding the
prime vertical into 12 parts.
And Regimontanus devided the equatorial plane into 12 parts.
Both systems use 6 great circles passing through the north and south
point in the horizontal plane at the given location and the mentioned
points on the prime vertical ( Campanus ) or equatorial plane (
Regiomontanus ).
The projection of these 6 great circles on the sundial gives the wanted
lines for the houses.
These circles are steady circles and can be used on sundials.

I also do know ( a little ) of houses using 6 great circles passing
through the ecliptical poles and deviding the ecliptic in 12 parts.
However this is not a steady system and projection on a sundial gives
the lines for only one day.
This system is much older than the systems by Campanus and Regiomontanus
but is useless on sundials.

More systems will have been used I assume but on sundials I only am
aware of the system by Regiomontanus.

I haven't any idea why people use or did use the houses, but it is
interesting to know their appearance on dials.

Fer.
