Dear Mr. De Vries,
Although I'm not an astrologer, I partially don't agree with your
sentence. I mean yes it is right that Regiomontanus considers the equatorial
plane the origin of the division of the twelve houses, but it is not the
only one theory, as you wrote. Surely this was the most renowned, though
nowadays there is one other commonly accepted.
By the way in medieval times there were many theories about it. One of the
most common was the one by Campanus from Novara, that used the first
vertical as origin and divided it in twelve.
Nevertheless, there is a system, mostly used up to nowadays in England that
is called, "ecliptic houses" or "zenital" that, I think, divide the
ecliptical circle.
I don't know for sure if the "domus planetarum" (the planet's houses) are
the same as the astrological houses, but the houses of the planet was, in
ancient past, exactly the zodiacal sign, and this is testified in many
medieval books.
Am I wrong?
If yes, I will be delighted to know more from you, or some other.
Happy dialling
Mario
