Hello Pam: On my map, Guam is very near lat. 145 E. The center of this time zone is 142.5, so a sundial on Guam would have a longitude correction of : 145 - 142.5 = 2.5 deg. , 2.5 X 4 = 10 min. If this quick calculation is right, then Guam doesn't qualify, unless you had a floating sundial near Guam! I don't have a good detailed map of those countries which observe Daylight Saving Time, so I am still wondering if this dialist paradise exists (on land!)
Thanks for your answer anyway, John >On Thu, 15 Jul 1999, John Carmichael wrote: > >> Is there anywhere on earth where there is no Daylight Saving Time and is >> located on the meridian at the center of a timezone? >> >> John Carmichael > >Guam has no DST and we are near the center of our time zone, but I'm not >sure we qualify as a dialist's paradise (though we certainly qualify in >climate) because the sun goes north of zenith for four months of the year. > >Pam > > > ======================================================================= > | Pam Eastlick | Email : [EMAIL PROTECTED] | > | Planetarium Coordinator | Voice : (671) 735-2783 | > | CCEOP | Fax : (671) 734-1299 or -4582 | > | UOG Station | Location : 13.25N, 144.47E | > | Mangilao, Guam USA 96923 | Time : GMT+10 EST+15 | > | | > | LOOK UP TONIGHT, THE UNIVERSE AWAITS YOU! | > ======================================================================= > > > >
