The Singleton thread has been dormant since last March, as far as I recall. It
proposed naming after him dials as described by John Singleton in the BSS
Bulletin of February 2000. John never claimed to have invented the idea, I
believe. Sara Schechner's definition was:
"a horizontal dial with polar-pointing style and showing standard time on 12
date rings."

The Austrian dial is vertical but otherwise identical.
