Hi Tony

I would be very interested in viewing a JPEG of this little critter ;-)
> JPEG of the instrument in use for anyone who is curious.

For many years architects have been trained to use a stereo sunpath diagram
which is essentially the Oughtred dial reversed. Alas most architects then
fail to make use of the sun - you can take a horse to water but you cannot
make it drink ;-)

I have seen an illustration of this used in conjunction with a mirror and
glass dome to dynamically view the sunpath at a prospective location. It was
called something like a 'dipaloscope' - a year or so ago Fer j. de Vries put
up an image of a similar device on this list.

Regards
John
