Hello Art,

Gianni has previously sent to this list (in 12/96, 2/98, and other dates) some methods for calculating EoT and solar declination. I'm sure he will be posting that material once more, perhaps in a new and and even better version. Else I can send you copies of his earlier messages.

Fer de Vries has published brief methods for finding values of EoT and solar declination in his program EQUADECL.EXE, which has been distributed as part of the ZONWVLAK package. ZONWVLAK is available for download from Fer's website, http://www.iaehv.nl/users/ferdv/.

Also, in February 1998 John Pickard distributed J. W. Spencer's method to this list. I can send that to you if you wish.

Other list members have contributed methods for the computations in question, but I don't have those messages close at hand.

Best wishes,

Mac Oglesby

Gianni,

I would like to have a simple approximation for the Equation of Time
and also for the declination (if the simple sine function is not
accurate enough). What were your results? I couldn't find anything
on the Web, and I hope I will not have to take apart source code to
find a formula.

Thanks,

Art Carlson
