I've just joined this list. I'm an amateur astronomer in Ohio, in the USA. The nature center where our club meets is building a large interpretive dial, and I've been asked to help figure it out.
My problem - the proposed gnomon is complex - the shadow-casting surface is angle iron which, although straight on the angle, will taper on the edges from the ground up to the point. To me, this will cast a complex shadow, and I don't know how to handle it. The gnomon point is 6 feet high at the tip. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave Gill Wilderness Center Astronomy Club Wilmot, OH
