I apologize for overlooking the BSS site in my message to Rui. Peter Scott has put together a very professional and attractive site. However, with exceptions, including John Davis' excellent sundial glossary, the site is principally concerned with the operations of the society itself. There are not many answers available there to the specific questions Rui asked. I encourage Rui to consider joining a sundial society. There are a number of them listed on the NASS Links page under "Societies". I am one of the three co-founders of NASS and also a member of BSS. However, if I were to recommend a first society to a beginner such as Rui, I would go with the BSS. The BSS "Bulletin" has much more content of interest to a beginner than the NASS "Compendium" which is, in my opinion, somewhat overburdened with mathematics. Perhaps the perfect balance is to join both societies and get the best of both worlds. Bob Terwilliger NASS Webmaster http://sundials.org
