Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about the possible nature of
Acadian sundials - once again shadow planes dials have proven themselves to
be ratehr interesting.

The second part of the question remains open - if you know of locales where
time marks or sundials were routinely added to the window frames of C.18th
homes, please let me know. One historian, long since dead, documented this
as standard practice in Cheticamp, NS, but the source of his information is
unclear. In fact, a couple of present-day historians / archaeologists I have
spoken to, are unaware of material or documentary evidence to support the
idea. Thus it would seem to be speculation on the part of the author. I'd
love to hear of a a precedent which supports his case.
