Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about the possible nature of Acadian sundials - once again shadow planes dials have proven themselves to be ratehr interesting.
The second part of the question remains open - if you know of locales where time marks or sundials were routinely added to the window frames of C.18th homes, please let me know. One historian, long since dead, documented this as standard practice in Cheticamp, NS, but the source of his information is unclear. In fact, a couple of present-day historians / archaeologists I have spoken to, are unaware of material or documentary evidence to support the idea. Thus it would seem to be speculation on the part of the author. I'd love to hear of a a precedent which supports his case. Steve
