I think my best bet will be to use the 2 mm pinhole. But I will take all of them to the mountain because I want to test all the sizes using the telescope's shadow edge. Maybe the larger holes will work better if the distance to the style is increased? Whadya think?

I agree, the larger hole will give a brighter, but fuzzier image. If the style is distant, the image will be less fuzzy, but since I don't think you will need the image any brighter where you are, I would stick to the 2 mm hole. Take along a 4 mm (1/4") hole just in case its brightness will call its attention to the novice, and you feel that makes up for its fuzziness.
