If you are referring to the 'nail in a board' method you will find it decribed in Waugh's Book. Some years ago I developed a high-precision version of this which was original enough to deserve its own name (I thought). The Lindisfarne 'Declinometer'. This is supported by a simple Mac spreadsheet to do the number crunching. I make the device to order but will supply drawings for anyone who has their own machine shop. Repeatable accuracy is reported by users. No 'curiosity only' enquirers please as I have quite enough to fill my time just now ;-) Tony Moss -
