It is interesting to note that the sundials in the vineyards of the Mosel
were installed for the benefit of the barge traffic on the river and not for
the workers in the vineyard. They are quite visible from the river and the
highways. Besides everyone knows that workers in vineyards are paid by the
day and not by the hour. Matthew 20, 1-16.

In the book "Sundials Australia" there is a picture of a horizontal dial
designed the authors, John Ward and Margaret Folkard for an Australian
vineyard. It bears the motto "A day without sunshine is like a meal without
wine". As usual, things are reversed on sundials in Australia!

Hi all,
does somebody know about descriptions of sundials located in the vineyards
of the german Mosel-Valley?
Furthermore I would like to hear if there are such descriptions of sundials
in other regions of viniculture in germany, of course also if there is a
similar culture of vineyard sundials in other coutries.
