I've checked both versions of illustrator that I regularly use viz. 8.0
and 9.0, and both seem to default to 800 so this may be why this aspect
of the problem hasn't arisen for me - yet! But this is valuable advice
to store away for future troubleshooting. Keeping both versions of
Illustrator active is essential for me as Adobe seem to 'progress
backwards' by removing my most-used features from later versions.
Cropping circles and curves is NEVER reliable in version 9.0 but
rock-solid in version 8.0
