MessageHi Bob and others:

I'm addressing this letter to everybody, Bob, because I think we need some
feedback on this important question...

What restictions are there for listing a sundial in the registry?

The reason I ask is that for years some of my nicest sundials have gone to
private residences with no public access. I never submitted photos or
descriptions of them to the Registry because I assumed that the Registry was
only for public sundials. In the middle of the Read Me text you see to
confirm this when you say:

"The on-line Register is intended as a dial-hunter's guide, and includes
only basic descriptions of dials that have reasonable access."

Yet at the top of the Registry's Read Me text it says:

"It is the intention of the NASS Register to list every significant sundial
on the North American continent."

These two statements are conflicting.

What if there is a significant sundial without public access, should it be
excluded?

My personal opinion is this: If there are significant dials that is
unavailable for public viewing, isn't it even more important to have photos
and descriptions of these just because there is no other way we can see
them? I am just not thinking of my own dials but of many other dials
without public access. It would be like excluding a beautiful sundial from
the Stained Glass Sundial site just because it's in a private collection.

respectfully,

John
