Thank you all for your comments and equations in answer
to my reverse engineering question. I will tackle the problem when I get
home and test your ideas. I'm going to try both the mathematical and
trial-by-error approaches. Eventually I hope to be able to review
some other historical dials to pinpoint their design locations and wall
declinations better.
