Wall Dec Nail Method

I'm still not clear on how to use the nail method that Carol used to determine wall declination.  I know we have discussed this method before but I can't remember the details.  Is this method described in a Compendium or BSS Bulletin article somewhere?  Or would somebody be willing to refresh our memories?   thanks   John
