MERIDIANE E OROLOGI SOLARI DI BOLOGNA E PROVINCIA
-------------------------------------------------

by Giovanni Paltrinieri and Italo Frizzoni

Paltrinieri, an enthusiastic dialist, and Frizzoni, a photographer have
compiled a catalog of the sundials in Bologna and environs in northern
Italy. More than 500 sites are described in detail with a photo of the
sundial or the building.

The catalog part is headed by an introduction into the measurement of
time and gnomonics. After that the reader finds the places with sundials
sorted alphabetically. Each sundial is classified in five categories
namely orientation, shadow caster, time shown, counting of the hours and
existence (whether the sundial still exists or not). Descriptions and
inscriptions are given in plain text.

In the medium there are photos of sundials in color. Unfortunately the
used paper is not suitable very well for color prints. But this is
compensated by the following parts in which interesting meridian sundials
are described in detail.

Conclusion: A very noble book which was done with many lovely details.
I'm sure, every dialist wants to own this book when he takes a look
at it. Although it is written in Italian language it might be valuable
for those who don't understand this language.

If one want's to order the book he can send an Eurocheque for 120 000
Italian Lire to Paltrinieri (shipping included). When ordering from
outside of Europe please contact him first.
