I recently received a photo of some type of dial or, possibly,
noon-indicator, taken in El Escorial, a monastery outside Madrid. It seems to
show a long (several meters, at least) metal bar, perhaps 10 cm wide, set in
the floor of the building. The photo does not show enough detail to tell if
there are any kind of graduations on the bar. No type of shadow appeared in
the picture.
My sister, who took the picture, was on a guided tour at the time and did
not have time to look closely. The guide characterized it as a "Greenwich time
indicator."
I'd be very interested in any information anyone would have about this.
