>Somedays ago, I read e.mail letters about Noon Marks in Cathedrals.
> I live in Bologna (Italy), and the most important Noon Mark is certainly
the Meridian Line of San Petronio Cathedral.
> The first line was traced in 1575 from Egnatio Danti. Eighty years
later, Giandomenico Cassini traced a new and greater line. A general
reconstruction was made in 1776 from Eustachio Zanotti, and this is the
instrument you can see now.
> The height of Gnomon, a hole of diam. 27 mill., is 27.0699 m. The
meridian line is, from the vertical point until the winter solstice, 66.7 m.
>
> But this is not the only Noon Mark in Bologna: in the town there are 13
other horizontal lines like San Petronio.
