I've written a group of programs , running in DOS, to calculate several
types of Sundials.
With them it's possible calculate :
- Sundials on a whatever plane and a whatever place
- Sundials with ancient hours ( Italic, Babilonian, Temporary) (on a
whatever plane)
- "Monofilar" Sundials in which the hour is marked by the point of
intersection of the shadow of a straight line ( horizontal, vertical or as
you will ) with daily lines of particular forms ( circle,
rectangle, ellipse, ecc.) ( The word "Monofilar" is invented by me ! )
- Bifilar Sundials (Michnik) on a WHATEVER plane with WHATEVER lines
casting shadows
- Sundials on the inner and on the outer surface of a vertical cylinder;
also Shepherd s. , hat s.
- Sundials on the inner and on the outer surfaces of an horizontal
cylinder ; also rings with fixed or movable hole, ecc.
- Sundials on the inner and on the outer surfaces of a vertical cone (
or
of a trucated cone)
- Time's Equation curves ( 3 kinds)
The programs allows to calculate and tabulate on a printer the data in
rectangular or polar coordinates and to draw the sundials ( in colours) in
several ways.
It's possible to zoom and antizoom; to show the sundial in perspective and
to move the point of view; to show the shadow of the rod and to move it
varying the time ( hour or day); to rotate the cylinder or the cone and
see
the sundial from a whatever point af view or to see the whole surface
developed ; ecc.
All the programs allow to calculate the hourly curves without or with Time
Equation ( hourly lines are 8-shaped) .
The draw of the sundial can be printed in scale on a HP-inkjet/laser
printer ( also on a needle-printer)
Every program has an help on line ( of some pages) and a little handbook is
contained in the package.
The whole package is about 1.5 Mb long and compressed is about 800 kb

A demo version of this package ( about 720 kb) (Name SUNDEMO), that
differs from the complete version only by the fact that Latitude and
Longitude cannot be changed, can be downloaded from the following addresses
