Dear Friends,
I wrote about a
month ago asking for your support for the Manor House Museum that was in danger
of being closed in April 2006. St Edmundsbury Borough Council have now had
their meeting and in spite of the many objections and requests to
delay a final decision on the closure the motion was railroaded
through. Therefore it now looks as if we will loose this fine museum and
its building. The Museum staff will receive redundancy notices with their
Christmas Pay Cheque. Charming!
To look on the
bright side it is probable that most of the collection will in future be housed
in the Moyses Hall Museum in Bury after a period? of
re-development.
I would like to
thank all of you who have written to the Council in support of keeping this fine
museum open.
If a museum near
you is under a similar threat then please shout out and I for one will do all
that I can to help in your cause. Don't let petty-minded and
penny-pinching councils take any more fine museums away from us.
