What are "ezanic hours"? They seem to be Italian hours with sunset the start
and end of the day but with two 12 equal hour cycles during day. Is this a
known and useful term?

Google gives me only one useful hit, the excellent article on Ottoman sundials
by Atillar Bir that got me interested.
See http://muslimheritage.com/topics/default.cfm?ArticleID=942 . I had seen
his original paper in Turkish on Joel Robic's site and was pleased to find this
translation of the key sections. See
www.akat.org/ast_tarihinden/osmanli_zamani/gunes_saati/

Atillar Bir defines the Islamic day starting and ending at sunset and the
interval to the next sunset being two 12 hour periods, ie ezeanic hours. These
are the hours shown on Ottoman sundials like the one he describes at Topkapi
Palace in Istanbul.

Are ezanic hours a known and accepted time system?
