In a recession all buying slows down. However, luxury items still sell. A sundial can be viewed as either a time piece, a limited market. Or it is a feature to relax the mind and enhance nature in a garden, patio, yard, or elsewhere. I agree with the reply about selling the need, and adapting the dial to the more artistic side of the brain (right side) as opposed to the more logical and scientific left brain.
Sundials on a column accenting a small fountain or pond are one such example. Many of my dials are small 8 inch cube dials, easy to put anywhere, ideal in a rose or rock garden.
