Welcome all ! This my first post on the dyalling list !:) The beautiful Russian
inclining sundial currently examined by Mrs Sara Schechner and signed
"ТАНГЕТЪ" was most likely made by Robert Tangate or his son of similar
name from the Joiners Company, who hadshop in Petersburg. Another fine dial by
one of the Tangates was for sale some time by the VallejoGallery, and can be
viewed in their archive: http://vallejogallery.com/item.php?id=94&It is
preserved with original box and bilingual advertisement sticked to the inside
of the cover ! From its style, I think this is rather earlier, late XVIIIc.
dial by the Robert Tangate the elder. The other Tangate inclining dial  I
know is listed in Adler Planetarium at: Accession number N-25,and this I
presume from is the dial examined by Mrs Sara Schechner. I hope this
information was useful. The topic of Russian sundials by English makers or
later, native Russian masters educated by them is very interesting.I lately
encountered one inclining dial offered by US antique dealer made in 1816 by
Russian master P. Zahawi in Tula, where there was a factory of scientific
instruments. P. Zahawi took over a workshop after a master Fedor Dowich in 1812
who is said to be Englishman. The dial' authorship and place of manufacture is
wrongly deciphred by the
dealer:http://www.etesseract.com/Inventory/Inventoryset.html   - than go
dialling, and to "An Early Portable Sundial for all of Russia" Maciej Lose
