Patrick you are right, there is a lot of sundials restored so bad that now they aren’t sundials.
Roberto Baggio has collected some of the dials defaced with pipes, cables and so on. There are some (especially among painted dials) that deteriorate into Non Dials as a result of restoration creep. One in the UK which has just been taken down for restoration is in this category.
