I have a news.
Gian Casalegno, the author of the software Orologi Solari and the app Sol Et
Umbra (Android), has developed a new app Android for Sundial Atlas. Gian wrote
the App and I have made the PHP interface to menage the server–client
operations.

The app will be described by Gian at the ‘Seminario di Gnomonica’, in Cefalù,
Sicily, april 4 – 6.
The app shows google map centered on your position or other place as you like,
then it shows the pushpins where there are the sundials.
With a click on the pushoin you can get a little photo of the sundial, or jump
to Sundial Atlas open on the card of the sundial, or get the track to reach it
from the location where you are.
Remember the sundials are registered with different precision: exact location,
50 m, 500 m, 2 km, more then 2 km.
In the next month the app will be developed with other functions, for example
with the possibility to upload a photo or to edit the address and the
coordinates, get from the GPS of the mobile or tablet.
This is the news but I’ve other important remarks on this matter, who is
interested may read the text below.

The development of Sundial Atlas and Sundial Atlas Mobile.
With this app I expect a great rise of the users, not all expert with gnomonics.
Some users like photography enthusiasts or simply turistis or others, are a
resource for Sundial Atlas because they can contribute uploading photos or
other info, this also is a resource for all the diallists, so they can find
some unexpected collaborations.
The downside is that these users could introduce wrong tecnical descriptions,
or edit right addresses with wrong indications, or make perfect some addresses,
those should remain hazy because the owner does not want to identify the exact
place.
>From the last year Sundial Atlas releases the level 3 to the users with
>gnomonics experience, this level allows to menage an area (like one or more
>counties, or regions or more), verifyng the news in that area and allowing
>some special actions like to lock a gnomonic description, or the address, or
>the coordinates and other more.
Who is interested to manage an area can ask the level 3. Simply writing to me.
In the meanwhile I’m working for the level 4. These users can issue o revoke
the level 3 and define their areas, they have these options for a whole state
and I’ll propose these positions starting with the representatives of the
national gnomonic societies.
The level 4 users will become the ‘committee’ with the powers of management of
Sundial Atlas. This structure allows to verify and check the data of the site,
to manage the site, to define the development of its functions, and it will
conclude the project I started in which I represent only the webmaster.
