Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I see this question was not resolved. It looks like Linda's map came from a 1909 article describing a new projection by Bernard Cahill, amusingly published in the Scottish Geographical Magazine. To illustrate and exaggerate the Mercator projection's distortions he used a map of "the United Kingdom enlarged to the size of a Continent". http://www.genekeyes.com/CAHILL-1909/Cahill-1909.html There is a better comparison of the effects of the Mercator and Peters (and other) projections on Britain here: http://www.newstalk.ie/reader/47.301.341/28729/0/ Tony. -- f.anthony.n.finch <[email protected]> http://dotat.at/ Trafalgar: Cyclonic in northwest, otherwise mainly northerly or northwesterly 5 or 6. Slight or moderate. Showers in northwest. Good. --------------------------------------------------- https://lists.uni-koeln.de/mailman/listinfo/sundial
