Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I see this question was not resolved.

It looks like Linda's map came from a 1909 article describing a new
projection by Bernard Cahill, amusingly published in the Scottish
Geographical Magazine. To illustrate and exaggerate the Mercator
projection's distortions he used a map of "the United Kingdom enlarged to
the size of a Continent".
