--- Begin Message ---Hi Helmut, Congratulations on a clever solution to the 'midnight overlap' problemBest wishes, Tony Moss ----Original Message---- From: [email protected] Date: 22/07/2016 21:53 To: <[email protected]> Subj: Enquiry relating to the wide polar gnomon and its midnight overlap in polar area Hi all, When studying the wide polar gnomon one inevitably encounters edge changes to be respected. My special focus is on a horizontal dial for a location with midnight sun. Around midnight the scale needs two overlapping sections. I have designed a solution based on a uniformly convoluted spider scale (see attached jpg (203 kB)). My question: Is a comparable dial existing anywhere? My web research produced only nil returns. The closest but not relevant hit is the Longyearbyen sun dial.
