Dear Jürgen and Kurt, Thank you both very much for your explanations:
WOZ =A6 Wahre Ortszeit =3D LAT =A6 Local Apparent Time MOZ =A6 Mittlere Ortszeit =3D LMT =A6 Local Mean Time My memory must be fading=21 I had forgotten Ortszeit and, now, I remember that Reinhold Kriegler explained Ortszeit to me several years ago=21 This list needs a third time... What do you say if a sundial allows for a longitude offset from the reference meridian of your time zone? What is the name of the time on a sundial which shows Wahre Ortszeit at 15 degrees East (the most important reference meridian in Europe)? There is no agreement about this in England. Here the Greenwich Meridian is our reference. We could say Greenwich Apparent Time, GAT, but I have never seen this. It would be GAST in summer :-) We could say Greenwich Solar Time but that would make GST which would be ambiguous: GST means Greenwich Sidereal Time so it would be a bad name=21 I can see an ambiguity with WOZ because I think WOZ can also mean Weiter Osteurop=E4ische Zeit. You can read about it here: https://de.qwertyu.wiki/wiki/Further-eastern_European_Time This is a very curious time :-) Very best wishes Frank --------------------------------------------------- https://lists.uni-koeln.de/mailman/listinfo/sundial
