Rdesktop has a switch to start up with only a single application. From the man page:
>>>>>
     -s <shell>
Startup shell for the user - starts a specific applica-
          tion instead of Explorer.
>>>>>

I wrote an Rdesktop wrapper that takes an application name as a parameter. It then opens a terminal session for that application with the appropriate options (it will auto-detect Sun Ray resolution as well). We may be deploying a second terminal server soon, so we could also load certain applications on each server, and use the script to start the application on the appropriate server.

Note that this doesn't prevent a user from opening a full rdesktop session from the command line, but thats not a concern for us. I'm not sure if that is possible with Rdesktop or not.

Jeff,
Just curious, how are you publishing single applications with rdesktop?

We use Rdesktop here. You can publish a single application, redirect audio and serial devices, and do much more. In limited testing, we found that it performed better than Citrix or Tarantella as well. And its free. So if you don't mind using a open source product that isn't supported, then check it out. Its been a great solution for us so far.

Also, we use the build from www.blastwave.org, which I believe is the latest from the Rdesktop site.

Hello Matthew,

With citrix it is possible to publish a single application instead of the whole desktop. I don't know if it's also possible with just the terminal server from MS. But this will be a thing you have to configure on the Windows server first.
You might want to have a look at:

Now I was going to have the users fire up rdesktop anytime they had to use a window app, but I'd rather then be able to just lauch them as desktop apps on JDS. I have seen a Sun Net talk where they did this and it seems pretty much like it was native, but being lauched on the windows server via rdp.
