Well, they are pretty good at that stuff, but modern Macs are simply
high-end desktop UNIX boxes. I make very little use of multimedia
capabilities. I use a Mac for hardware and software
development...schematic capture, printed circuit board layout, circuit
simulation, FPGA development, "regular" software development...along
with the standard
display-X-apps-remotely-from-machines-in-the-datacenter tasks.
It took quite a big push to get me to not have a Sun as my main
desktop machine (as I've had for ~fifteen years), but OS X did it.
There's a SPARC machine to my left, though. :)
