Thanks to both Aaron and Jakob for their two individual solutions to my
problem.
Problem 1 - Left ALT key doesn't work - the Left and Right META keys
(diamonds)
have the ALT key functionality
* Fixed -> created .Xmodmap in home directory:
clear Mod1
clear Mod4
add Mod1 = Alt_L
Problem 2 - Right Shift doesn't work
* Fixed -> disabled all Keyboard Shortcuts then re-added the ones I needed.
Once again, thank you for you help. I will have to identify how to
disable all shortcuts
via gconf as it is unacceptable to expect users (or allow them to) set
each and every
keyboard shortcut to disable. Going on what I was looking at in the
Configuration
Editor, it seems they are spread all over the place.
For those who care, the keyboard is a Sun Type6 USB Australian Kit
keyboard.
