FYI
The GDM provided with SRSS has patches added which allow GDM to start a
session on different/multiple display numbers. These patches were put
back into the main GDM source tree. GDM version 2.8 was the first GDM
official release with this functionality and should be capable of
supporting SRSS logins. Unfortunately, the configuration of the GDM as
delivered with different distributions can cause havoc with SRSS.
The official word from Sun is not to use GDM. However, if you put in
place the workarounds in the Ubuntu Wiki page, it should allow the
stable use of GDM with SunRay. I have logged a bug on the issue,
however, it is yet to receive a reply - the bug is located at the
GNOME Bugzilla - BugID 326796 -
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=326796. The bug is also
logged downstream on the Ubuntu Bug Tracker.
If GDM isn't recommended, then do you have any idea what is (besides
dtlogin)? Any one of KDM, XDM, WDM?
GDM is the display manager of choice for Linux installations of SRSS. We
deliver GDM with the SRSS bundle.
Brad
Do you think that the GDM provided with SRSS is superior to the
Ubuntu version from a stability standpoint?
