ShowMeTV definitely links in libutmedia.a (statically), as
OttoM stated.
I didn't say that, and I don't believe that's how it works. I'm
al;most certain that ShowMeTV links libutmedia dynamically
by using dlopen().

You could be right re dlopen/dlsym, it doesn't much matter
(for this discussion). The point is that it does use the
private interface.
I wasn't aware of the initial performance degradation, thanks.
