For a bit of info on T1 chip testing with Interop clients... Follow the blog for the results to be posted in a few weeks. ThinGuy is on vacation this week.

Some numbers to give you an impression of the T2000 when a single user is on the system:

JDS 3 logon:
T2000 = 17 Seconds
V240 = 15 Seconds
Blade 100 = 85 seconden.

Staroffice 7 startup time:
T2000 = 7 Seconden
V240 = 5 Seconden
Blade 100 = 32 Seconden

Web Browser startup time:
T2000 = 11 Seconden
V240 = 7 Seconden
Blade 100 = 18 Seconden

Since the E450 is also a sparc II chip I would expect it to be slightly faster than the Blade but slower than the V240 and T2000

Heavy testing with multiple users has been done by Sun on the T2000 and they roughly gave me the following numbers: Citrix/tarantella/rdp load going through the Sun ray server: 20 active users/core
Desktop load (Mozilla,Star Office, Acroread,.etc): 10 users/core
Heavy processing load: 1-2 users/core (floating point related jobs)

Active users are indeed active users normaly 30% of the users on your system are active. So you can multiply active users by 3 to get the real users / core numbers.

There are some things you might want to look at.
T1 does not support VIS so multimedia applications will scale probably beter on sparc III machines.
But sofar I did not found that to be a problem.

The numbers from Sun are already a bit old so maybe they have run some new tests with new numbers.

Did anyone come to a conclusion about using one of the CoolThreads
servers for the SRSS for a small number of users (say < 50)? I'm working
on forecasting for next fiscal year and we have an old E450 that needs
to be replaced and I'm trying to figure out what to go with. -- Russ
