It will take, but that's a 64 bit Java that Sun Ray doesn't like.

I find it odd that it's dumping core, but who knows.

You don't install 32 bit, you boot into it.

Catch it the grub screen and change the boot parameters to boot the 32 bit kernel i.e. /platform/i86pc/kernel/unix

That will stop the 64 bit JRE from loading.

Then go into /opt/SUNWut/sbin and run utinstall -u (or utconfig -u if you did that already)

Then go into the supplemental dir of the SRSS tar ball and under Solaris you'll find the 1.42 JRE (although their is a better 1.4x version out there. Run the shell file and then move teh jre dir to wherever. Just note it and then when you run utinstall again, you can point it to there.

It's late, I'm tired, I could have a few things wrong (like the echo in the rm command in an earlier email). It's not that 1.6 is bad, it's just that SRSS depends on a 32 bit and /usr/java under NV is 64 bit.

64 bit on x86? i just noticed that it says 5.11 64bit... and not 5.11
32bit. i have been so used to 32bit x86 solaris...
this install was on a v20z, does ns 57 install as 64 bit or is it just
saying that? if it is installing as 64 bit, how do i do a 32bit install?

i pointed srss to the java dir in usr and it took. do i need to install
java 32bit on this build? if so, what package do you recommend?

What is dumping core? There's really only one work-around that you
need to do for dtlogin.

Did you install the right (i.e. a 32 bit version) of Java for Sun Ray Server?

anyone know how to install SRSS on OpenSolaris?

after hours of d/l the cd's to install nv57 on my v20z, it was going
okay
(but slow video) then i installed SRSS and every thing was great
until the
reboot and it just cycles a core dump.
I must admit that i have only been an Sun Ray admin for about a year
now...and it has been great, but i dont know much about solaris error
messages.
thanks to the welcoming new NV builds i will be trying harder and
harder
to use solaris as my full-time os. Currently i run win server 2k3 on
every
machine i have - it provides access to everything i need except for
zune
access so i keep another xp laptop around for that.
i cannot wait for the day that solaris will run all of my every day
apps
as well. i very much like that i can plug in my ipod on solaris now
and it
just pulls up all of the songs and i can play them from the ipod -
very
nice. it's really these little things (and inneficiency of
installation
and gui items that keep people away from this otherwise very good os)

we should keep aiming at the suse 10 side of things. i think their
software installer is second to none - better than windows, far
better
than os x and the coolest thing since xgl.
sad thing is apple fans will think that os x pioneered xgl or "work
spaces" (as the os x users will see it - the spinning cube)....
so wish i had this on solaris...
