Ivar,
If there is no luck on this list you might want to try contact Dave
Douglas who is Sun's 'Green Guy'
http://blogs.sun.com/enviro/
I was thinking about buying a power clamp and doing this sort of testing
myself. If nothing comes up you may just have motivated me to go out and
do it.

Hello,
I was wondering if there are some environmental studies available
about the Sun Ray.
It would be nice if some in depth research would be done on this. The
case is not as easy as comparing a 4 Watt workstation with a 160 Watt PC.
With a sunray setup you have 4 Watt on the desktop but you need to add
the Sun Ray server and a Windows Terminal Server with switches in the
backend. In the backend you can share resources and resort to
powermanagement to absorb peak loads and switch of servers when they
are not needed.
Another issue is the durability of a Sun Ray compared to other
alternatives. This will result in less energy cost for production,
transport, packaging, etc.
So I think the Sun Ray has a strong case if it comes to comparing
environmental friendly IT solutions.
Why would I like to have such a report?
Well in Europe the environment is a political issue. There is a lot of
money spend on the searching for ways to reduce CO2 emissions.
For instance , governments are promoting energy efficient light bulbs
by giving them to consumers at no charge.
Although the production cost of the light bulb is much lower than that
of a Sun Ray I think we can do some nice things with Sun Rays to if we
would have the right research material.
If there is anyone, at Sun or otherwise, who is also interested in
this please let me know.
If nothing is available yet I think we need to work on something.
Kind regards,
Ivar
