Hello Folks,
I hope that you are well. I recall that the GDM is specific to the
Sun Ray install. Is there any reason that the deltas cannot be merged
into the regular GDM software upstream ? So this sort of stuff
shouldn't be an issue ?
It was in fact merged into the main branch, for exactly
this reason.
I believe that 2.16 contains the necessary changes
(I'll check with the developer that supports GDM),
but since our installer was written for releases that
don't deliver 2.16, it exits if you're unwilling to
uninstall the system version and use the version we
deliver. :(
It would be better if M08GDM could do an actual version
check of some sort, to allow people to experiment
with advance, unsupported platforms like RHEL5. We
try to avoid fatal errors when versions are in advance
of what we support, but apparently overlooked this
case. You might try hacking the copy of
/opt/SUNWut/lib/iu_modules/M08GDM to avoid
returning "2" in the case where you answer "no" to
this question...

Hi,
I just wanted to share my experience with rhel5.
I tried the client and server versions both with the same result, the
installation breaks at the GDM, if i select N at the removal question
the
installation stops
Remove gdm-2.16.0-30.el5? ([Y]/N): N
utinstall: fatal, error in the module M08GDM (event Init).
If i select Y the installation continues but i get this error
gdm-2.4.4.7.2-10.i386.rpm
file /usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop from install of
gdm-2.4.4.7.2-10 conflicts with file from package
gnome-session-2.16.0-6.el5
GDM: error, GDM not successfully installed
utinstall: fatal, error in the module M08GDM (event Install).
I think this is the same error that some guys were getting with FC6
Btw, i had to uninstall ksh-93 and install pdksh from a RHEL4 package.
cheers,
C
