Hi Michael,
In brief:
One would choose Terminal Services, when:
* Applications run out of the box on TS
* You look for a mature solution, that has been proven x times over years
* Minimizing the HW costs is key
On the other a Virtual Desktop solution is getting interesting, when:
* Applications do not run on TS or qualification of applications is too
time consuming
* You have many misbehaving apps (they misbehave only in an isolated VM
as opposed to a whole TS server - less side effects on other users)
* You need more flexibility in desktop configuration
* You want more flexibility/control for users on their desktop
* Advantage of thin-client today, but more flexibility in long term
desktop strategy

When looking to deploy desktop replacements, why would you choose to go
with Terminal Server over VMWare desktop or vise versa? What about
hardware to desktop requirements for each solution, will one or the
other require more hardware on the backend?
Thanks for your advice.
