Yep, authentication is performed via passwd.

Can you point me to a website that shows how to set up what you suggested?

If the users are authenticating from each Sun Ray servers passwd file,
you would have to set up both servers to authenticate via NIS/NIS+/LDAP.
Not as hard as it sounds. For just 2 servers, setting one up as a NIS
master, and one as a slave. It would be an easy thing to do.
