They figured this out on the install-discuss opensolaris mailing list and
someone put together an unsupported process to make this work:

I sent this to my Sun Engagement Architect (or whatever his title is these days
;) ) and he wasn't able to get any answers on the supportability of a system
that had been created in this way..
Maybe if more people ask them for this, they'll test it and bless it..
